Break is Over

And GO!

Ever wonder what a weekday morning is like for the Conrad Household is like? It goes a little like this…

5:40 a.m. Alarm #1 goes off. It’s the warning alarm.
5:55 a.m. Alarm #2 goes off. Light on vanity gets turned on. Glasses get put on. Some snuggle time…alone.
5:55 a.m. to 6:10 a.m. Olena charges in with Snoopy. Tries to get in bed and snuggle in. Failing that she will make Snoopy say hi to everyone.
6:10-15 a.m. I hit the shower. Rob goes downstairs to get Theo’s bottle ready, starts the coffee. He’s the coffee maker and he makes a good cuppa Joe!
6:30 a.m. I am out of the bathroom and the call goes down to Rob that the bathroom is now his.
6:30-40 a.m. Gretchen gets up. Both girls argue, or play, and then get ready in my room. Usually right in front of the door so I can’t get out…
6:40 a.m. If Theo is not awake, I have to go and wake him. Olena, or Gretchen, usually tag along to help me unzip his sleeping tent. He usually wakes up with a smile that lights the room. He grabs his blanket and downstairs we go to change him into clean PJs if needed. Clothing for school comes later.
6:40 – 7 a.m. Medical assessments… is everyone feeling OK? Runny or stuffy noses? Who needs Claritin? Temperatures taken if needed. Medicine distributed: 1 1/2 tsp liquid vitamins for Theodore, Prevacid capsule mixed into apple sauce given to Olena, both girls given chewable vitamins.
7 a.m. (at the latest) Theo takes a seat on the couch, enjoys his bottle, and having his foot rubbed.
7 a.m. Breakfast for the girls. Choices could be Chocolate Chex (chocolate squares only), or Trix, hold the milk. Toast with Nutella. Pancakes or Chocolate Pancakes (chocolate muffin tops…can’t call them muffins). Yogurt.
7 a.m. Dad eats.
7:10 a.m. or so try to get Theo to eat something else before the bus comes. Usually fails.
7:15 a.m. Olena has her inhailer, usually thanks to Dad. Teeth brushing ensues.
7:20 a.m. Heat Theo’s pasta up. Put in Thermos. Hope that, he will finally, eat some lunch at school.
7:20 a.m. Make sure Theo’s backpack is ready to go with Thermos, yogurt, bananas, apple. juice (when needed), diapers, other supplies. Theo gets changed for the day.
7:20 a.m. Dad leaves for work. Girls are either fighting or running around trying to put their shoes on to see Theo’s bus driver.
7:25-30 a.m. Theo’s bus comes to pick him up. The girls usually entertain the driver and the aide. We give Theo our kisses and tell him to have a great day.
7:30-40 a.m. Mom catches breakfast. The girls bring their back packs into the kitchen to pack breakfast snacks. Usually a fight ensues. Sometimes not. Usually involves a spat over which ice pack Olena/Gretchen can bring.
7:45 a.m. I get my last-minute things together. Coffee. Lunch for work.
7:45-55 a.m. Make sure the girls actually still have sock and shoes or sneakers on (otherwise known as snocks in our house).
7:55 – 8 a.m. Bring girls to neighbor’s house to catch the bus.
8:05 a.m. Bus arrives. We get on board and say our hellos to Mark. Get in seat and buckle in.
8:05 a.m. I get into car — and enjoy the silence for a bit. Time to start the day and it’s off to work.
