Girls Weekend

A weekend away from the boys was in order as we gathered to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of Rob’s cousin and her beloved…

This meant a huge change in schedule for us, and a ton of driving into Pennsylvania and south Jersey. On top of that it marked the first time ever I had been away from the boss for so long! Usually, dad and I are able to get away for less than 24 hours and the girls are home with Theo. This time, I had the girls with me, and Theo and dad stayed behind.

What guy wants to go to a shower anyway?

I’m not going to lie — I was a wreck. I just didn’t know how this would go. Add to the schedule change the 24-hour stomach bug which (thankfully) started and stopped with Theo made things very different. It wasn’t until we were 2 hours into the drive when I started to relax.

It was a whirlwind tour and man was it so much fun!

I got to take the girls to King of Prussia Mall where they spent some of their birthday loot on stuff from Justice.

We went out to dinner together the first night at the mall, the second at the Wegman’s Pub in Malvern (where I could get an adult beverage — thank you very much).

We sang silly songs, some punk rock, and watched some DVDs of the girls’ choice while navigating through three states.

And, most importantly, we got to celebrate and see both Rob’s family and my family.

It was different alright — but was almost “normal.” And I got to spend quality one-on-one time with my girlies who sometimes have to take the back seat because Theo’s needs are so high.

So, on the way home, I asked the girls, would they do it again? With all the driving and navigating and city traffic (on a normal day in CNY traffic is usually defined by slow moving farm equipment) both said, without a doubt, they would.

And I would too…even though it didn’t seem like enough time to catch up, it was good for us all.

Until next time…
